My Sushant was six months old when he was diagnosed with Thalassemia Major. He's now 9-years-old and he has been undergoing blood transfusions every 15 days for the past 9 years. Blood transfusions and hospital visits have become a major part of his life. When he was 6-years-old, during one of his transfusions he received blood of the wrong blood group which made his condition even worse. But that didn't break his courage. Sushant is a fighter and one of the most obedient child I have come across. And I say this because, he not only co-operates with us but also remembers the date for his next cycle and reminds me a day before. He says "Baba, we've to go to the hospital tomorrow". I want to free my child from this vicious cycle of life. And the only way to do that is a Bone Marrow Transplant worth Rs. 11 lakhs ($16,046).
I am Santosh Marathe, a labourer by profession and I make Rs. 7,000 a month. This small amount of money isn't enough to afford his medicines let alone the surgery. I have a daughter of 8-years-old who also happens to be Sushant's Bone Marrow Donor. She teases her brother by saying "I won't donate anything to you" to which he replies "I won't be able to play with you if you don't give me what I need". The bond they share is unbreakable. |
